Internet Lawyer

With the explosive growth of the internet, an entire new area of the law has emerged.  Many common issues that exist in other areas of the law also exist within the internet realm, but this field is still relatively new.  Attorneys who have focused their practice in the area of internet and ecommerce are pioneering into this new territory.

Common Internet and Ecommerce Issues

  • Ecommerce transactional issues;
  • Online copyright and other intellectual property disputes;
  • Online advertising and marketing issues, including proper methods of email marketing, false or misleading advertising, etc.;
  • Litigation for internet related injuries;
  • Defamation;
  • Privacy issues;
  • Domain related issues, including "cybersquatting;"
  • Freedom of speech, censorship, etc.;
  • Criminal acts taking place over the internet (Viruses, identity theft, etc.);
  • Sales tax disputes from online transactions;
  • Online contracts and other binding agreements.

Internet Law Development

Although the internet is still reasonably young, new laws are constantly developing to best determine which practices are acceptable.  Some regulations have been formally established, such as the CAN-SPAM Act.  The rest of these laws continue to develop through case law, as well as statutory law.

If you have been the victim of an internet-related injury, or if you have been accused of such, you may benefit by contacting an internet law attorney.  He or she can get a grasp for the entire situation, including what agreements you may have signed, which state's laws will apply to your case, etc.  Internet lawyers typically must stay on the cutting edge to remain on top of this fast paced industry.
