Immigration Attorneys

The United States throughout its history has been called a "cultural melting pot" due to its diverse citizenry and its open door policy for foreigners.  However, as the world becomes increasingly smaller, and as immigration laws continually evolve, any questionable immigration issues should be consulted with a skilled immigration attorney.  Hiring an immigration attorney is a critical and necessary step for any individual who is attempting to file for a Green Card, a path to citizenship, or seeking to stop deportation from the country.

However, even U.S. citizens may still need the services of an immigration lawyer.  Typical issues that an immigration lawyer is adept at handling include immigration through adoption, hiring non-citizen workers, or bringing foreign visitors to the U.S. for temporary business purposes.  A very helpful resource for determining the proper forms that are needed for many immigration matters is US Citizenship & Immigration Services.  This site should be checked frequently, as laws are often updated and revamped.

The term "immigration" to some connotes negative feelings, as they think of illegal aliens, U.S. border issues, and the like.  However, there are a whole host of important issues grouped within this area of the law.

Common Immigration Issues

  • Filling out proper forms for U.S. citizenship, Green Cards, & temporary work visas;
  • Helping foreign individuals apply for the U.S. immigration lottery, dealing with immigration appeal issues, etc.
  • Advising adopting parents on U.S. laws, as well as the foreign country's adoption laws that dictate how, when, and on what terms they will be able to adopt.
  • Advising employers on what exact documents they need from foreign workers to comply with U.S. laws.
  • Assisting foreign individuals seeking to attain refugee status or to find asylum in the U.S.
  • Assisting foreign students in the U.S. on how they may stay and find employment after graduation.

An immigration law attorney not only advises foreigners, but also U.S. citizens.  Immigration law is generally considered to be federal law.  Regardless of one’s citizen status, an immigration law attorney can assist you through any of the complicated issues mentioned above.  Immigration law is a niche field of the law, and the attorneys who regularly practice in it are often very knowledgeable.
